Magnificent Monday - Got Green?

Magnificent Monday Guest - Terry Blais!

I love making a few St. Patrick's Day cards every year, for a couple of friends and to hand out as random acts of kindness to customer service people with treats as I do my errands. It's just fun! This card combines my favorite supplies - punches and an embossing folder - in a clean and simple way.

I am happy I was asked to be a guest designer for Pink Paper Bakery. Those girls make some marvelous goodies!
I went thrift shopping just this weekend for items to upcycle and smaller furnishings that speak to me, many of which get painted. So I had paint on the brain when I created this green card. You know, like paint chips. I started with Whisper White, then went to Certainly Celery, Lucky Limeade and Gumball Green, running all of them through the Chevron embossing folder. I used the smallest heart of the Heart Framelits to make the shamrock, layering hearts on top. The stem was hand-cut. Of course I needed a little bling - with a large rhinestone - and a sentiment. This one is from the Got Treats stamp set.

Stamps: Got Treats;

Paper: Whisper White, Certainly Celery, Lucky Limeade, Gumball Green card stocks;

Ink: Gumball Green;

Accessories: Chevron embossing folder, Hearts Framelits, Small Heart punch, large rhinestone, dimensionals.
Thanks for sharing with us, Terry!

Thinking outside the card: Tea time earrings

Not everything I make is a card -- and some things are just too cute to give away. These adorable tea set charms, for example!

When I saw the Tea Time Trinkets set in the spring catalog, I knew that I wanted to make them into something I could keep. Because these come with lobster clasps, I was able to turn another cup into a charm I can swap out on my necklace, too.

I found the locket and chain (on the clearance rack, huzzah!) and added a little International Bazaar DSP.

Have fun thinking outside the card!

  • International Bazaar DSP
  • Daffodil Delight
  • Lucky Limeade
Stamp set:
  • Lovely Letters Alphabet
  • Early Espresso
  • Tea Time Trinkets
  • Simply Adorned Charm

Stained Glass Technique

I tried a new technique last night with a fun group of stampers.  Using the Versamark pad and Black embossing powder on vellum, you can get a very realistic looking butterfly to add to your hand made card.  After you heat emboss with the black embossing powder, flip the butterfly over and color it with your Stampin Write Markers.  The result is a stained glass look that is oh so pretty with the Papillion Potpourri stamp set!

  • Sahara Sand card base
  • Tangerine Tango card stock cut to 5 1/4" by 2"
  • Basic Black card stock cut with the Labels Collection Framelits and Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder
  • Whisper White card stock cut with the Labels Collection Framelits
  • Itty Bitty Punch pack
  • Basic Pearls
  • Vellum card stock
  • Versa Mark stamp pad
  • Heat tool
  • Paper Piercing tool and Occasions Piercing Templates

Easy To Duplicate Feminine and Masculine Cards

Do you ever come across a layout that you like and know you need to duplicate right away?  I wanted to create a masculine card using the Midnight Muse and Crumb Cake color combination but was having difficulty coming up with a layout.  As soon as I saw this layout on another Blooming with Kindness card, I knew that it could work for a feminine or masculine card.  Adding the silver button with the linen thread tied through and into an "X" shape made the card more suited for a male.  But tying the linen thread through the button and into a bow gave the card a more feminine touch.  I made up several of these cards to have on hand for upcoming female and male birthdays.  They were quick and easy to create.  Create some for yourself to have on hand for all those upcoming birthdays today.

Ice Cream Card

I saw this sweet ice cream cone on a card made by Heather Klump, and I loved it! The sentiment is a build-it-yourself sentiment set, called Fabulous Phrases. I added Heather's cute ice cream cone to a long, skinny tag, and layered it onto a simple, polka-dot embossed background.

The ice cream cone is made using the Pennant punch and the Square Lattice embossing folder, and the ice cream scoops are from the Cupcake Builder punch. The words are stamped with Chocolate Chip ink, and they are stacked up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I added Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine, to the tag, for a little extra color.

  • Stamps: Fabulous Phrases
  • Paper:
    • Chocolate Chip card stock: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Crumb Cake card stock: 3 3/4" x 5 1/4"

      • 1 5/8" x 4 3/4", corners clipped

Love & Laughter Wedding Card

Alot of the crafting I've been doing lately has to do with preparation for my sister's wedding.  She has an outdoorsy rustic theme going with all of her decorations, but when she was a little girl, she could sport some bling!  If it sparkled, shined, or had fur, she was wearing it!  When I was creating this card, I had that little girl in mind!

Baker's Tips:  Always use the embossing buddy to take the static off of your card stock, this way the embossing powder only sticks to the image stamped in Versa Mark.  The dress image was heat embossed, and then cut out and adhered with dimensionals.  To give the punched flower a more 3-D look, use a stylus on a mouse pad, or paper piercing pad and gently swirl a circular motion in the center of the flower.  The edges will start to curl up into a cupped shape.

  • Whisper White card base
  • Whisper White card stock cut to 3 3/4" by 3 1/2", then run through the Big Shot with the Elegant Lines embossing folder
  • Silver Glimmer Paper cut to 1/2" by 4 1/4"

  • Love & Laughter stamp set
  • Pewter Embossing Powder and Embossing Buddy

Specialty Butterfly

Happy Valentine's Day! I figured you are probably past needing Valentine inspiration, so I'm giving you Springtime inspiration! After all, who isn't already ready for Spring?

I recently saw a beautiful butterfly on Stampin' Connection (a sharing site for Stampin' Up! Demonstrators), and I finally got the chance to try to duplicate it. My butterfly did not turn out exactly like the one I saw, but I think it turned out pretty cool. There were no instructions on how she created hers, so I had to guess from looking at it.

I used a translucent piece of plastic with Crystal Effects and Pacific Point reinker, and just played around with it until I got this look. I really like the translucent look of it.

  • Paper:
    • Lucky Limeade card stock - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Tempting Turquoise card stock - 4" x 5 1/4"
    • Whisper White card stock

    • Labels Collection Framelits
    • Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die
    • Stripes Embossing Folder

Quick Valentine's Mini-Gift: A Matchbook M&M's Packet

Need a last minute Valentine's Day mini gift?  Make a few of these Matchbook M&M's Packets and you can pass them out as you walk down the hall at work.  Or give them to your kids to pass out to their friends and teachers.  I created these fun matchbook M& M's packets with my stamping club this weekend but tomorrow my daughter needs a few little gifts for the teachers and staff at her preschool.  So I created a few of these matchbook M&M's packets in about 5 minutes and had her sign the inside of them.  Valentine's Gifts Done!

Inside of matchbook

  • on the 11" side of the card stock, cut every 2 3/4"; this will give you 4 pieces of card stock already scored
  • fold on the score lines
  • staple a mini M&M's packet or Skittles packet inside; place your staple on the 3/4" flap at the bottom of your card stock
  • add a 2 1/2" x 3 1/4" DSP or card stock layer, some ribbon, stamped images and/or punched out layers to add a fun look
  • pass out to friends, family and/or classmates and enjoy the smile that comes across their face :)
