I remember my early days as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator when I would see a card that I loved and order everything that I needed to make it.  I never even stopped to think that I could make the same card with different supplies.  After all, it is usually the colors and the layout that we fall in love with.  For club, this month, I wanted to use the Reason to Smile stamp set which is only available through tomorrow, July 31st.  I set out to find an example that I loved because I am not great at starting from zero and came across this one by Monica Weber.

Well, I didn't have the embossing folder or greeting that she used and I was a little low on whisper white cardstock so I made some alterations.  First off, you must excuse my photography, not a good picture.  But, on the whole, I'm happy with how it turned out.  Now, if you really want the set to copy this card, you need to contact your demonstrator and get it by tomorrow.  Or, you can try making it with a different flower set that you already have.

So, I created my own and am pretty happy with how it turned out.  Now, if you really want the set to copy this card, you need to contact your demonstrator and get it by tomorrow.  Or, you can try making it with a different flower set that you already have.

Ingredients: Curly Cute and Reason to Smile stamp sets; Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Soft Suede and Whisper White cardstock and ink; Fancy Fan Embossing Folder

Card Café

Thank you so much for those who participated in the first of our weekly virtual card swaps! These are some great layouts, and I hope they inspire you to be creative!

For next week's Card Café virtual swap, we will be sharing cards with Sponging. Sponging is awesome because it can add a little something, like shading, or the appearance of a layer when it's around the edge of the card stock. It can also be dramatic when used along with masking to highlight an image, or as a background. We can wait to see how you decide to use sponging this week!

Email your submission to pinkpaperbakery@gmail.com by 3:00pm (Eastern Time) on Friday, for your sample to be posted on Saturday. Both bloggers and non-bloggers will be able to participate. Bloggers, if you want your blog attached to your photo, email a link to your blog post. Non-bloggers, simply email a photo along with your name, and location (optional).

  • Your card must be made with Stampin' Up! products (retired Stampin' Up! products are okay).
  • Bloggers must use a post within the challenge week.

Christmas in July

Why not?  Even if you're not ready for it quite yet, at the very least, those thoughts of sleigh bells and snow balls might get you feeling a little bit cooler!  I was gearing up for our first Card Cafe virtual swap with a layout I saw on a fellow demonstrator's blog.  Thank you, Julie Davison, for the layout idea for this card!

  • Chocolate Chip card base
  • Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper (126896), cut to 2" by 3 3/4"
  • Raspberry Ripple card stock cut to 1 3/4" by 2 1/2"
  • Whisper White card stock punched with the Decorative Label punch (120907)
  • Gumball Green card stock punched with the new 1 1/4" scallop circle punch (127811) available August 1st!!!

Virtual Swap Layout

I know the Card Café, virtual card swap, doesn't open until Saturday. But I'm excited, and I wanted to share now!! I have several go-to layouts when I'm in a pinch. Lately, I have been totally digging this one. I tend to be attracted to smaller size images (such as this mug), and this layout is perfect for those. Here is another sample I did using this layout. What is your current favorite layout? Show off your artwork, and share it at the Card Café!

I hope you aren't thinking...Christmas already! Well, I have decided that by doing some Christmas stuff early, I can actually ENJOY the holidays. Stampin' Up! makes it fun by introducing new holiday stamp sets and accessories early, before we are overwhelmed with it in the stores. I don't start freaking out until I see the stuff in the stores. So for now, I'm chillin' and creating, with no pressure. By the way, you can order from the Holiday Mini starting August first!

  • Stamp Sets: Scentsational Season (121026 wood/ 121190 clear - available Aug.1)*, and Teeny Tiny Wishes
  • Real Red card stock - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (fold)
  • Candlelight Christmas Designer Series Paper (126901 - available Aug. 1) - 1 3/4" x 5 1/4"
  • Early Espresso card stock - 1" x 3 3/4"
  • Ink: Gumball Green, Real Red, and Early Espresso (marker).
  • Labels Collection Framelits (125598)
  • Holiday Collection Framelits (127814)*
  • Jewelry Tag Punch (117190)
  • Linen Thread (104199)
  • Stampin' Dimensionals
Baker's Tip: I used a craft knife to cut a small slit in the mug, so I could tuck in and position the candy cane to my liking.

*Note: The Scentsational Season stamp set and the coordinating Holiday Collection Framelits can be purchased as a bundle (129945 wood/ 129946 clear), for a $7 savings!

Post-It Note Holder

The following Post-It Note Holder was created for club members as an appreciation for being a part of my Stamping Club for the last 10 months.  I also made 4 more of these as teacher gifts during teacher appreciation week.  It was the perfect quick, easy and small gift for the teachers since we were giving them a different gift each day.
Completed Post-It Note holder
Instructions adapted from Stampin' Up! Demonstrator website:
  1. Place the Chocolate Chip card stock (11-1/2" x 6-1/4") lengthwise on the Simply Scored base, and score at 4 1/4", 4 1/2", and 9 1/2".
  2. Punch the edge closest to the 9 1/2" score line using the Scallop Edge Punch.
  3. Fold the card stock on the score lines and add an Antique Brad to the punched flap of the post-it note holder.
  4. Adhere a 1" x 6 1/4" strip of DSP from any pack of DSP or Simply Scrappin' kit to the front of the post-it note holder.
  5. Stamp the butterflies image from Kindness Matters in Chocolate Chip and Melon Mambo ink using markers on a 2 3/4" x 1 1/4" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.
  6. Sponge Melon Mambo ink around the edges of the stamped piece of card stock.
  7. Adhere the card stock to the post-it note holder with dimensionals.
  8. Adhere the 4" x 6" sticky notes inside the post-it note holder using Sticky Strip.
  9. Tie any ribbon around the front of the post-it note holder.  In this case, the retired Melon Mambo 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon was used.

Home from Convention

I just arrived home from Salt Lake City last night and all I want to do is get in my stamp room and make so many of the beautiful projects that I saw while there.  Unfortunately, I have a pile of laundry, unpacking and lots of other things standing in my way.  I had a great time and wanted to take this post to share.

Here are a few girls from my downline having a great time at the opening session.  Love their tiaras and aprons!

The opening session is extremely exciting.  These are SU employees dancing to the theme song on stage.

Maureen, me, Dana and Rene walking the red carpet on Awards Night.

This is Memento Mall.  Each display of products was put together as a seasonal theme.  My favorite this year was the set of SU garden flags.  You can see one of them at the far left of this picture.

I don't want to leave you without offering a little stamping inspiration.  I really enjoy and learn so much from  the on-stage stamping demonstrations.  This is one that Shelli Gardner did at the opening session.  I absolutely love it!  Have a great week!

Rubber Meets Metal

When I saw the Serene Silhouettes stamp set in the new catalog, I wanted it immediately.  I loved the shadowy nature images, but not for paper.  I wanted to stamp on some metal with those beauties!  This is a fairly new hobby to me, one that combines my creative left brain that is so fond of rubber stamps, and my inner chemist right brain, that loves a little bubble and burn!

Basically, I stamp an image on a piece of copper or bronze using Staz-on ink.  When the metal is introduced to a chemical etchant (stuff they use to make circuit boards) the chemical erodes away the metal that is not protected by the layer of Staz-on ink.  Freakin cool, right?

There is no end to what you can do with rubber stamps...one of my newer club members (who dabbles in all kinds of crafts herself) refers to rubber stamping as the gateway drug... it leads to all kinds of other crafty addictions!!

I wouldn't leave you without a card sample!  Freshly Made Sketches caught my eye this week, thought I'd give their challenge a go using this great stamp set.  Have a great weekend!

Miss You Friends

Do you have a friend who it doesn't matter how much time has passed since you last talked or seen each other, you just pick up where you left off?  I have two dear friends who fit this description to a "T".  We always pick up our conversations where ever we left off and we can always find something to talk about.  Both of these friends live in different parts in Virginia so it's at least a 4-5 hour trip to visit either of them.  Since my kids are now more involved in extracurricular activities - soccer and Cub Scouts, it makes it even harder for me to make these somewhat long trips in the car with the kids.  But whenever I'm missing them or just need to let them know that I am thinking of them, I send out a "Miss You" card.  So I created the following card when playing around with some of my new In Color goodies.  It's bright and cheerful...and this card just makes me smile :)

Close up of the bird & "miss you" greeting
For the Birds stamp set - (bird & "miss you" greeting) #126405 WM or #126407 CM
Bitty Banners Framelits #129267 (used to cut out the greeting in Gumball Green card stock; just use a scrap from your collection)
1 1/2" x 4" piece of Floral District DSP # 126919
Gumball Green 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon #126848 (wrapped a piece straight around the top layers & then added a piece of knotted ribbon to the straight piece with a glue dot)
Staz On Jet Black ink pad #101406
4 1/4" x 11" Gumball Green (card base - scored at 5 1/2") and 4" x 5 1/4" Daffodil Delight (layer) card stock
Gumball Green and Daffodil Delight markers
3 3/4" x 5" Whisper White (top layer) card stock

I am so excited!  In just 2 days, I am leaving for Stampin' Up!'s annual convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.  It will be four full days of stamping, swapping, presentations, shopping, eating and hanging out with some of my favorite people.  Next year, SU will be celebrating their 25th anniversary.  All of us bakers are planning to go and we would love to have you join us!  Click on your demonstrator's name to let her know that you need more information because you want to go, too!

My card today is one that I have been working on all weekend.  I have made a ton of these and am taking them to convention to swap with other stampers.  If you have never witnessed thousands of crazy stampers swapping their cards, you are really missing something.  You must come next year!!!
