My Favorite?

Recently, my friend Sera asked me what is my favorite thing in the new catalog. Without hesitating, I said the new paper piercing templates! Well, after receiving my shipment of new goodies, I found that I couldn't put down my new stamp set, Papillon Potpourri, and the coordinating new butterfly punch. So rather than totally changing my mind, I decided to merge them into one card!

Ingredients:
  • Papillon Potpouri stamp set (123757 wood/ 123759 clear)
    • Stamped in Riding Hood Red ink (it doesn't totally match, but I wanted a bit brighter butterfly than Cajun Craze), and punched out with the new Elegant Butterfly punch (127526)
  • Soft Suede card stock - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (folded)
  • Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper - 1 3/4" x 4 1/4"
  • Cajun Craze card stock - 1" x 4 1/4" - torn
  • Very Vanilla card stock
    • Stamped with One in a Million (126380 wood/ 126382 clear) in Soft Suede ink
    • then punched out with the 2 1/2" Circle Punch (120906)
  • Essentials Paper Piercing Pack (126187)
  • Stampin' Pierce Mat (126199)
  • Paper Piercing Tool (126189)
Baker's Tip: Add the butterfly with a dot of glue at the center of the body. Gently bend back wings to help give your card some dimension.

World Treasures Meets a Sketch Challenge

My Stamping Challenge Card using World Treasures stamp set
Decided to try another stamping challenge with the new World Treasures stamp set.  Wanted to use a new In Color so I got out the Color Coach to come up with the color combination: Gumball Green, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight.  Started with inking up the peacock in Daffodil Delight and then using the Rock n' Roll technique to pick up the Gumball Green color.  Finally I added Melon Mambo to the peacock's body using a Melon Mambo marker and the Gumball Green marker to make one of it's feather green.  I liked the way it turned out but it seems the new stamp pads are definitely more juicy so the colors ran together a bit more on the middle feathers.  Oh well.  I think it still looks cute!
Close up of the peacock image.  See how the inks seemed to have ran together :(
Cut out the peacock image with the 3" Circle Big Shot die and mounted it on a Gumball Green circle cut from the 3 1/2" Circle Big Shot die.  Inked up the wording with Gumball Green and Melon Mambo markers.  Cut out the words with the new Apothecary Accents Framelits and mounted it onto the card using dimensionals.  Last, I stamped the diamond-like image in Gumball Green across a 5 1/2" x 1" piece of Daffodil Delight and added it under the peacock layers on my card.

I like how bright and cheerful this card turned out and the layout is different, too.  What do you think?  Would you use this color combination or layout?  Add your comments below to let us know what you would do.

Giving the New In Colors A Try

Deena and I got together a few weeks ago to do some late night stamping with all of our new stamping goodies (and Jen's too).  Here is one of the cards I came up with using the new 2012-2014 In Colors and the Everything Eleanor stamp set.  This is one of the cards we decided to do at our joint New Catalog Open House.  I love how well these two colors go together and really make a statement.

Happy Hour, and knowing when to say 'when'.

So, I don't know about you, but I am LOVING this new catalog!  One of the first stamp sets I just had to have is called Happy Hour.  The name alone was enough to sell me!  It's not hard to come up with layouts using this set, but thought I'd try a challenge this week anyway.
Pals Paper Arts challenge this week is the following layout:

I really liked the simplicity of this layout, but I'm a little concerned that I went overboard with my card.  There seem to be a lot of focal points, but I still kinda like it.  Should have called one of my crafting buddies to help me know my limits!  Cheers to the weekend, and the official start of summer!
Ingredients:
  • Primrose Petals card base
  • Midnight Muse card stock cut to 5 1/4" by 4"
  • Summer Starfruit card stock cut to 5 1/4" by 1/2"
  • Smaller circles cut from the Designer Series Paper Patio Party (126916)
  • Images from Happy Hour stamp set inked with markers in Basic Black, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, and Midnight Muse.
  • Whisper White card stock punched with 2 1/2" circle punch, Raspberry Ripple card stock also punched with the big circle punch.
  • Greetings from Happy Hour stamp set stamped in Midnight Muse
  • Rhinestone jewels
  • Lemon wedge and 'cheers' circle are adhered using dimensionals.

Pleasant Poppies

When I took my first look at the new catalog, Pleasant Poppies definitely jumped out at me. Poppies are so whimsical, bright, and cheery, and I have fond memories of seeing them along the freeways in Southern California.

    • Inked up with Tangerine Tango and Old Olive Stampin' Write Markers

  • Old Olive card stock: 1 pc - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (fold for base), and 1 pc - 3/4" x 3 7/8"
  • Whisper White card stock: 1 pc - 4" x 5 1/4", 1 pc - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", and 1 pc - 5/8" x 3 3/4"
  • Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper (125409): 2 1/2" x 4"
  • Tangerine Tango card stock: 1 pc - 2 3/4" x 3 3/4", and 1 pc 2 3/4" x 4 1/4"
  • Brights Collection buttons (119747)

Loving My Brayer

It's taken me awhile but I think I've finally gotten the brayering technique.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

Step by step baking instructions...
  1. Emboss images and words using VersaMark ink and White Embossing Powder.  It will be hard to see these images and words on Whisper White card stock so you can add the embossing after brayering if you prefer.
  2. Punch a circle out of a post-it note.  Any size will do; I used the 1 1/4" Circle Punch for this card.  Place punched out circle of post-it note on your Whisper White card stock (technique is called masking since you are masking a part of your card or image before adding another image or in this case brayering on top of the circle).
  3. Cover your 4" x 4" Whisper White card stock with Daffodil Delight using a brayer.  Just ink up the brayer and cover the card stock in all directions until card stock is almost saturated.
  4. Brayer the top half of card stock in Real Red.  Just go lightly towards the middle of the card stock so it leaves more of an orange layer.
  5. Sponge Lucky Limeade  (or brayer slightly) across the bottom of card stock.
  6. Remove circle post-it note and now there will be a white circle.  I put the rest of my post-it note over top of the white circle that is now on the card stock.  You don't have to do this.  I just wanted to have a bit of white outline around my sun.
  7. Sponge Daffodil Delight inside the circle for your sun.  (Remove post-it note if you used it to create a white outline around sun.)
  8. *Skip this step if you already embossed.* Emboss images and words here if you decided to wait until after brayering.  Then delete the next step and move onto step #10.*
  9. Rub a tissue or cotton ball all over the embossed images and words to remove extra ink left from brayering.  This will give your embossed images and words a brighter white color.
  10. Add to a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" Whisper White layer.
  11. Tie a piece of Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine around these two layers.
  12. Adhere layers to a 5" x 5" Lucky Limeade layer.
  13. Adhere to a 5 1/4" x 10 1/2" Daffodil Delight card base which has been scored at 5 1/4".  You're done!
Change the images to something smaller and it gives you a different look...

Up close view - If you don't want the tiny white specks between the words, use an Embossing Buddy on your card stock before you emboss anything.  This will allow the embossing powder to only stick where there is VersaMark ink.
Give it a try with a different stamp set and a different color combination.  I'd love to see your take on this technique.

Butterfly Tango

I have been using my heat tool lately and finally started playing with the brightly colored embossing powder from Stampin'UP!.  I really like the results of the Tangerine Tango embossing powder on the Pool Party card stock.  I also embossed the greeting in Tangerine Tango powder on Tangerine Tango card stock.  It comes out a little bit lighter on the same color card stock, and I like the way that looks, too.  Hopefully my butterflies in this color combo get you in the mood for a wonderful summer weekend!  Happy Friday!

Ingredients:
  • Crumb Cake card base
  • Tangerine  Tango card stock cut to 5 1/4" by 4"
  • Whisper White card stock cut to 4 1/4" by 1 1/2"
  • Pool Party card stock cut to 4 1/4" by 1 3/8"
  • Crumb Cake card stock punched out with the Decorative Label punch.                                   Baker's Tip: cut the punched label in half, so that you can stick both ends out from behind the white card stock.

For Fathers Everywhere

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! If you're in need of a quick Father's Day card before Sunday, this is the card to try.  It took about 2 minutes to make this card after the initial learning curve on the first one.  I quickly made 3 more for my father, grandfather and my father-in-law.  I used retired DSP but you could easily use World Spectacular (#126897), Polka Dot Parade (#126902)  or Fan Fair (#126918).

Directions for Shirt: Use 4” x 5 ¼” sheet of DSP.  Score 5/8” from top of DSP.  Cut in 1” from both sides on the score line (cut from top to 1” & from 3” to bottom of DSP).  Fold top of DSP to the score line which forms the top of shirt collar.

Directions for Tie: Start with a 4” x 4” sheet of DSP.  Place the side of DSP that you want to be your tie face down.  Turn DSP to form a diamond.  Fold corner to corner to form a triangle.  This creates a score line down the middle of the diamond for you.  Unfold.  Now fold DSP from one corner (left or right side) to score line which forms a point at the top and repeat with the other side; looks like an upside down ice cream cone.  Turn the DSP over.  Fold point down about 1” making sure the point is on the score line.  Fold the point up half way and then fold it up the rest of the way; forms the knot of the tie.  Unfold the last fold and put it behind the top of the DSP.  Adhere with adhesive.  Turn it over and fold the side of the tie towards the score line.  Use your bone folder to crease the folds.  Repeat on opposite side.  Add adhesive to triangles to keep sides of the tie from coming undone.  Add glue dots down center of the tie.  Attach tie to DSP shirt/collar layer.  Add dimensionals to collar and adhere to DSP.  Make sure the knot of the tie is under the shirt collar.  To add some bling to your shirt collar, poke a hole with a paper piercer through the shirt collar.  Add silver brads on shirt collar.  Attach the completed shirt and tie onto card base.  Done.

It may seem like a lot but once you've done it, it gets much easier.

Ingredients:
DSP - World Spectacular (#126897), Polka Dot Parade (#126902)  or Fan Fair (#126918)
Soft Suede #115318 or Neutral Cardstock for card base
1/8" Mini Silver Brads #122941
Dimensionals #104430

Aviary, Cased

Although Aviary is not a new stamp set, I still love the whimsical birds and bird cages. I've always had a soft spot for birds!
I fell in love with the simplicity of this card when I saw it. Lorri Heiling was the original creator. Lorri scored each one of her leaves, and made them look fluffy, which I loved! I however, stayed on a more simple path of simply gluing them down.

  • Whisper White card base - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 (fold)
  • Tempting Turquoise card stock - 3/4 x 5 1/2
  • Aviary stamp set (116956 wood/ 120462 clear)
  • Pursuit of Happiness stamp set (121907 wood/ 121970 clear)

Keep Calm And...

With all the chaos that occurs in my daily life, I need a daily reminder to "Keep Calm".  So what could be better than Stampin' Up!'s new Carry On stamp set?  It allows you to choose the best "And... (saying inserted here)" to any situation.  My personal therapy for all the chaos in my life is stamping so I chose "Keep Calm And Stamp On"!  I used bright colors to make sure this card could brighten any one's day.  The Lucky Limeade and Tangerine Tango combination was so easy once I spotted this sheet of Summer Smooches DSP.  This card now has a permanent home on top of my desk to remind me daily to "Keep Calm And Stamp On" whenever I'm having a rough day and need a bit of personal therapy.
I originally CASEd the card layout (sorry I don't remember who the original designer was) for a local demonstrators' Shoebox Swap where all of us create a card and cut supplies for other demonstrators to recreate their own.  It's always fun to get together with these ladies, most of which have become my closest friends because of Stampin' Up!.  If you're interested in joining us for all the fun, sign up as a demonstrator for only $99 today and customize the Starter Kit.  What could be better than that?  Contact any of us to find out more about this amazing opportunity and how much fun we truly have when we're all together.
