Are You Ready for Summer?

I don't know about you but I am definitely ready for summer.  More laid back days, daily visits to the pool, kids playing in the backyard, beach trips, etc.

When I think of summer, I think of hot and humid weather here in North Carolina.  With this type of weather, you feel like you need a shower every time you go outside.  Most of the time my kids and I come home from the bus stop and have a popsicle to cool off right away.  This card reminds me of the fun times I enjoy with my kids and how sharing a popsicle break helps me learn so much more about their days.  To see that smile on their faces when they are having one just makes my heart melt (haha...melt like a popsicle does on a hot day).
I love punch art since I have so many punches.  I love to see how I can used them differently to achieve another effect.  Here is a fun punch art card that reminds me of hot summer days.  This card was CASEd from a Leadership Card Swap originally created by Susan Carpenter.  I chose to use all the Brights DSP colors instead of Pool Party like this card.  For our Stamping Club, we used Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Pacific Point.

To create the popsicle punch art:
  • start with a 1 1/4" x 2" piece of Tangerine Tango card stock
  • round 2 of the corners with a corner rounder punch to create the bottom of the popsicle
  • feed a piece of card stock through the 1 1/4" circle punch so you only cut one end of the card stock creating the top of the popsicle
  • use the end of a scallop oval punch to cut out a piece of the card stock at the top of the popsicle which makes it appear as if someone took a bite out of it
  • sponge a bit of Tangerine Tango ink on the edges of the Tangerine Tango piece to add some dimension
  • punch out a 1" circle piece of Whisper White card stock using a 1" circle punch
  • use the end of a scallop oval punch to once again cut out a piece of card stock to create a bite mark on the Whisper White circle
  • attach this circle underneath the Tangerine Tango popsicle and layer it so the bite marks line up a bit
  • punch out a piece of Crumb Cake card stock using the Window Word punch
  • use an embossing folder to add texture to the popsicle stick if desired
  • sponge a bit of Chocolate Chip ink all over the Crumb Cake Window Word punched piece to add some dimension
  • add this piece underneath the popsicle and attach the whole popsicle/stick punch art to the card
